The materials charm
Gold and silver
The very thin leave-beat
out precious metal is hot fixed between two layers of transparent glass,
with a strong luminosity and brightness.
Twenty grams of gold
or silver are enough to cover a six square meters surface.
Marble and stones
The marble is the most
used stone material in the mosaic field, thanks to its good malleability,
wear resistance and wide chromatic variety characteristics. Marbles and
stones of different origin are used, like alabasters, travertine, sandstone,
calcareous tuff, granites, basalts and porphyry.
Enamels
The enamel, the mosaic
glassy material par excellence, is the result of a fusion at 1300/1400°
Celsius and of the following silica, fluxes and metal oxides mixture cooling,
acting as colouring agents.
It is very resistant
and malleable and is particularly bright. It is today possible to choose
among five thousands colours available.
Glass blends
A coloured glass mixture
and opacifying agents are melted together in the furnace and casted in
the specially made moulds: geometrically uniform tesseras come out, whose
transparency may vary, according to the need, from the complete transparency
to the total opacity, with the possibility to realize a wide range of
shades and nuances.
Other materials
Having care to consider
the mosaic collocation and the consequent requested resistance level (against
wear and tear, light, weather agents …) many other materials of natural
and artificial origin can be applied: hard or precious stones, shells,
ceramics, baked clay.
The aesthetical effects
that can be reached do not find almost any limit.
